Writing Sprint is a foundational creative writing course designed to introduce children to the art and craft of storytelling and story writing.
Over 2 months and 40 classes, students learn how stories are created, developed, and brought to life. The course takes them beyond simply writing sentences and helps them understand the essential building blocks of a compelling story.
Students explore:
- Characters – how to create believable, interesting, and memorable characters
- Plot – how a story is structured and how events move the story forward
- Setting – how to create the time, place, and world in which a story unfolds
- Genre – different types of stories and how to choose the right genre for an idea
- Conflict – how to introduce challenges, problems, and tension that keep readers interested
- Story Development – how to build a story from an initial idea to a complete narrative
- Climax and Resolution – how to build towards an important turning point and bring the story to a satisfying conclusion
- Point of View – understanding who tells the story and how perspective changes the way it is experienced
- Dialogue and Description – learning how characters speak, interact, and experience their world
- Creative Thinking – developing ideas, imagination, observation, and original perspectives
Through guided exercises, storytelling activities, prompts, and writing assignments, students gradually learn to transform an idea into a story.
The course focuses not only on what to write, but also on how and why stories work.
By the end of the Writing Sprint, students will have a strong foundation in storytelling and the confidence to develop their own characters, plots, conflicts, and complete stories.
