IELTS Listening Section Overview

The IELTS Listening test consists of four sections, designed to assess both everyday and academic listening skills. It lasts 30 minutes, with an additional 10 minutes to transfer your answers to the answer sheet. You will answer 40 questions in total, with 10 questions in each section, earning one mark for each correct answer. The difficulty increases as the test progresses, and each audio is played only once.

Here are the four sections:

Section 1: A conversation between two people on a social topic, like organizing an event.
Section 2: A monologue, such as a speech or a talk.
Section 3: A discussion between 2 to 4 people, often about academic topics.
Section 4: A monologue related to academic subjects, like a university lecture.

Marking and Scoring:

Each correct answer earns 1 mark, and there are no negative marks for incorrect answers.
The total score is out of 40 and is then converted to a band score out of 9.
