Help students talk about their yesterday’s routine while practicing past tense grammar structures. Engage them in storytelling and encourage interaction through questions and discussions.
To achieve effective results in student learning, trainers must adhere to the following guidelines:
(Trainer begins by sharing their own routine to set an example for the students.)
Trainer’s Script:
“Hello everyone! Let me tell you about my day yesterday.
I woke up at 6 AM and brushed my teeth. Then, I had a cup of tea and a slice of toast for breakfast. After that, I worked on planning today’s session for all of you! Around 1 PM, I had lunch with my family. In the evening, I went for a walk in the park. After dinner, I watched a little TV, and finally, I went to bed at 10 PM. That was my day yesterday!”
After sharing their routine, the trainer explains how to structure sentences using past tense verbs.
Trainer’s Script:
“Now, let’s learn how to talk about our yesterday’s routine.
Now it’s the students’ turn to share!
Trainer’s Script:
“Alright, now I want each of you to share your yesterday’s routine. Remember to follow the steps I just showed you:
Take a moment to think, and when you’re ready, raise your hand or unmute yourself to share.”
After each student shares, encourage the other students to ask follow-up questions.
Trainer’s Script:
“Great job, everyone! Now, let’s make this even more fun. After someone shares their routine, I want the rest of you to ask them questions.
For example:
(Trainer plays the pre-recorded audio of Mira talking about her yesterday’s routine.)
Hello, everyone! My name is Mira, and I study Arts at college. Let me tell you about what I did yesterday—it was a busy but fun day!
I woke up at 7:00 in the morning. The first thing I did was brush my teeth and wash my face. Then, I went to the kitchen and made tea for myself. For breakfast, I had bread and butter with a banana.
After breakfast, I got ready for college. I wore my favorite blue kurta and packed my bag. My first class started at 9:00 AM. We learned about different painting styles in my art class. After that, we talked about how colors can show emotions. It was very interesting!
At 1:00 PM, I had lunch with my friends in the college canteen. I ate a vegetable sandwich and drank some juice. After lunch, I stayed back in the library for a while to complete my homework. I was working on a project about famous Indian artists.
In the evening, I went home and helped my mom prepare dinner. We made chapati and sabzi together. After dinner, I watched a little TV with my younger brother. Then, I read a book about art and ideas for beginners.
Finally, at around 10:00 PM, I got ready for bed. I brushed my teeth again, said goodnight to my family, and went to sleep. That was my day!
Trainer’s Script:
“Now, let’s listen to Mira’s routine. Pay close attention because I’ll ask you questions after the audio. Ready? Let’s begin!”
After playing the audio, ask the following questions:
Trainer’s Script:
“Alright, can you answer these questions? Let’s hear your answers one by one. Don’t worry if you’re not sure—we’ll discuss them together!”
Encourage students to practice and give them an assignment to reflect on their routine.
Trainer’s Script:
“You all did an amazing job today! For homework, I want you to write or record your yesterday’s routine again. You can also add more details this time, like what you felt during different parts of the day.
One more thing—start building a habit of reading for at least 10 minutes every day. It will help you improve your vocabulary and storytelling skills!”
Good luck, trainers! You’re helping your students become great storytellers! 😊
