Discussing Education System

Activity Overview:

In this activity, you will practice discussing the education system. You will talk about your thoughts on how education works, what’s good about it, and what could be improved. You’ll also discuss how education has impacted your life.

Step 1: Prepare for the Speaking Task (5-10 minutes)

Before you start speaking, take a few minutes to think about the topic and the questions.

Tips for Talking About the Education System:

• Describe the education system: Explain what the education system is like in your country. Mention the different levels such as primary, secondary, and higher education.
  • Example: “In my country, the education system is divided into primary school, secondary school, and then university. Children usually start primary school at the age of five.”
• Discuss strengths: Talk about the good things in your education system. This might include the quality of teachers, the subjects taught, or the opportunities available.
  • Example: “One strength of our education system is the quality of teachers. They are very well-trained and help students understand difficult subjects.”
• Talk about challenges or improvements: Mention any areas where the education system could be improved. Maybe the system is not equal for everyone, or there are outdated teaching methods.
  • Example: “One issue I think needs to be addressed is the heavy focus on exams. Sometimes, this doesn’t allow students to show their creativity or practical skills.”
• Relate to personal experience: Share your own experience with the education system and how it helped shape you.
  • Example: “My schooling experience was positive. I had great teachers who helped me become more confident in my abilities.”

“I think the education system in my country is generally good, but there are some things that could be improved. The system is divided into primary, secondary, and higher education. Primary school starts at the age of five, and students move on to secondary school after finishing primary education.

One of the best things about our education system is the quality of education. Teachers are well-trained and care about students’ success. For example, my math teacher in high school was really helpful, and I could ask him questions whenever I didn’t understand something.

However, I think the education system could do more to promote creativity. Right now, too much focus is placed on exams, and this can make students stressed. I believe that education should allow students to explore their interests and learn in different ways, not just through exams.

For me, the education system helped me a lot. I learned essential skills like critical thinking and communication, which helped me in my career. But I hope that in the future, the system will also focus more on personal development and practical skills.”
