Objective:

To help CELPIP aspirants effectively express their opinion on any given topic and develop the ability to speak for at least 5 minutes, by using structured methods for idea generation.

Part 1: Understanding How to Express Your Opinion

Key Steps for Expressing Your Opinion:

1. State Your Opinion Clearly: Use a direct phrase to introduce your opinion. For example:
   • “I believe that…”
   • “In my view, the most important factor is…”
2. Provide Strong Reasons: Support your opinion with valid reasons or examples. Use phrases like:
   • “The main reason for this is…”
   • “One example of this is…”
3. Acknowledge Different Perspectives: Mention the opposing opinion to show you understand the topic fully:
   • “Although some may disagree…”
   • “While it’s true that…”
4. Conclude Confidently: Summarize your opinion and reinforce why it’s valid. For example:
   • “To sum up, I strongly believe…”

Example Conversation (Opinion on Online Learning vs. Traditional Learning)

Question: Which is better: online learning or traditional classroom learning?

Response:

• “In my opinion, online learning is far more beneficial. The primary reason is the flexibility it offers. For instance, students can attend classes from anywhere, saving travel time and costs. Additionally, many online courses allow you to learn at your own pace, which is helpful for students with different learning speeds. However, some people may argue that traditional learning offers more opportunities for face-to-face interaction, which is true. Despite that, I believe online learning’s advantages far outweigh its limitations, especially in today’s fast-paced world.”

Part 2: How to Generate Ideas on Any Topic (5-Minute Speaking Method)

When preparing to speak about any topic, the following method will help you quickly generate ideas:

1. Use the 5W1H Technique

• Who? Who is involved?
• What? What is the issue or event?
• When? When does this take place?
• Where? Where does this happen?
• Why? Why is this important or relevant?
• How? How does this work or impact people?

By answering these six questions, you can easily develop enough content to speak on any topic for at least 5 minutes.

   Everyone, especially people with busy schedules who need relaxation.
2. What types of hobbies exist?
   Creative hobbies like painting, physical hobbies like hiking, and mental hobbies like chess.

   In their free time, often during weekends or vacations.
4. Where can hobbies be practiced?
   Some hobbies require a studio or a gym, while others can be done at home or outdoors.
5. Why are hobbies important?
   They provide relaxation, help reduce stress, and improve mental health.
6. How do hobbies improve well-being?
   They offer an escape from daily stress, enhance focus, and sometimes improve social skills.

2. Use at least two strong reasons to support your opinion.

5. Listen to the recording and evaluate:
