Listening Test Instructions-I
Part 1: Listening to Problem Solving – Returning a Defective Electronic Item
Customer: “Hello, I recently bought a laptop from your store, but it’s been giving me problems since I got it. It turns off randomly, and sometimes, the screen doesn’t even turn on. I’ve tried everything I can think of, like restarting it, but nothing works.”
Store Associate: “I’m sorry to hear that. Can I take down some details of your purchase? What’s the model of the laptop, and when did you buy it?”
Customer: “I bought it last week, and the model is the XYZ-3000. I still have the receipt if that’s needed.”
Store Associate: “Thank you. I’ll check our system for any returns on that model. It sounds like the laptop might be defective. You can return it for a full refund, or we could offer you a replacement if you’d prefer.”
Customer: “A replacement sounds good. I need it for work, so I’d like to get something that works properly.”
Store Associate: “Understood. I’ll process the replacement for you. It will take a few minutes to set it up. Please have a seat, and I’ll bring it out to you shortly.”

Part 2: Listening to a Daily Life Conversation – Discussing a Favorite Movie
Friend 1: “Have you seen that new action movie that just came out? It’s called Edge of Tomorrow. I watched it last night, and it was amazing!”
Friend 2: “Oh, I’ve been wanting to watch it! What’s it about?”
Friend 1: “It’s about this guy who keeps reliving the same day during a battle with aliens. He has to learn from each day to get better and stop the invasion. It’s got a lot of action and a bit of comedy.”
Friend 2: “That sounds interesting. I love time-loop movies. Is it really intense though?”
Friend 1: “Definitely, but not to the point where it’s overwhelming. The pacing is perfect, and the characters are really likable. It’s kind of like Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers.”
Friend 2: “Sounds like something I’d enjoy. I’ll go see it this weekend. Thanks for the recommendation!”

Part 5: Listening to a Discussion – Team Brainstorming Ideas for a Marketing Campaign
Team Leader: “Alright, team, we’ve been given the task of creating a marketing campaign for the new product launch next month. Any ideas on how we should approach this?”
Team Member 1: “How about we focus on the product’s unique features and create a series of videos showcasing them?”
Team Member 2: “That sounds good, but I think we should also highlight customer testimonials. People trust reviews more than just advertisements.”
Team Member 3: “We could also offer some promotional discounts to early buyers and create a sense of urgency.”
Team Leader: “Great points! Let’s also make sure we use social media to target younger audiences and influencers. We need to get the word out as quickly as possible.”
Team Member 1: “I agree, we could also collaborate with some influencers to share the product with their followers.”
Team Leader: “Okay, let’s move forward with these ideas. We need to have a final proposal by next week, so let’s start putting this together!”
Questions for Part 5:
Part 6: Listening for Viewpoints – The Impact of Technology on Personal Relationships
David: “I believe that technology, especially social media, has had a negative effect on personal relationships. People spend so much time on their phones that they forget to engage with people face-to-face. This leads to a decrease in emotional connections, as online interactions often lack depth.”
John: “I disagree. While it’s true that some people may spend too much time on their phones, technology also allows us to stay connected across distances. It helps maintain relationships with family and friends, even when they’re far away. I think the key is balance.”
David: “But how can we have meaningful conversations through texts or short messages? Technology might help us stay in touch, but it doesn’t replace real-life interactions. There’s a lack of empathy in digital conversations.”
John: “I see your point, but I think technology allows for more convenient and regular communication. We can share our thoughts and feelings in real-time, even if we’re not in the same place.”
